Cut out for telephone engineering

I’m not sure when it dawned on me that I was not cut out for things with an artistic bent, but I do know that when I was about nine years old, I told the rest of the world that I would much prefer to be surrounded by absolutes and enjoyed the pure sciences. I think that might actually be exactly what I said.  It was right after a trip to the Modern Art Museum, which, to be perfectly frank, I just don’t get.  Upon hearing my commentary, my teachers started to encourage my efforts in science and math.  I eventually stopped balking at drawing and enjoyed design.  All of these factors helped me pick out my current career as a telephone engineer. I am glad that my artistic parents and the liberal arts educators in who shaped my childhood had the patience to help me find my right direction.
